Annabel Westland
Modern Foreign Languages
Myrtle Springs School
The ‘Triples’ project
The objective was to encourage a Y7 mixed ability class to do more
speaking in French.
The constraints The school did not have sufficient laptop resources and the teacher
had not previously used these sound and animation techniques.
The solution
The City Learning Centre hosted two morning sessions for 15 students
and an after school training and planning session with the teacher.
Timetabling a complete morning at the centre was achieved by using
a normal MFL lesson and two free lessons that Annabel had that morning.
The workshop began with role plays and a run through of the easily
learned Kar2ouche software. The laptops were easy to use with their
built-in microphones and results of the student work could be shown
on the interactive white board.
|

Students recorded and then animated their sessions and played them back
on the computer.
The outcomes
The self consciousness usually associated with speaking a foreign
language was completely absent among these Y7 pupils. The students
are now outperforming other students who did not attend the session
and they still speak about the event, although it took place in the
autumn term.
The ‘Triples’ project support provided by the City Learning
Centre will allow Annabel Westland to repeat the learning experience
back at school next time and to introduce the teaching and learning
ideas to other colleagues. |
